Take a break at Dharasu on way to Yamunotri and marvel at the brilliance of man-made Dharasu Power Station

Dharasu is a small town famous for Dharasu Power Station, located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand in India. If you are on your Char Dham yatra and want to explore the beauty of Dharasu and its popular Power Station, then come here.

The place offer pleasant sights of mountains enclosing the region from all sides with a huge hydroelectric power station built on the Bhagirathi River. The idea is to generate energy from waters of river Bhagirathi. As part of stage two of the famous Maneri Bhali Hydroelectric Project, Dharasu Power Station was commissioned in 2008 and is known for generating 304 MW capacity of energy.

The place, Dharasu is perched at a height of 1339 meters above sea level, which makes it a more sought-after region for hosting one of India’s most power hydroelectric power stations. If you really want to know and learn about the power station, lock a few days aside of your Charm Dham Yatra to make it here, relax and enjoy the magnificence of man-built energy source amidst nature’s bounty.

As is know, Indian pilgrims and even foreigners find it auspicious to go on Char Dham yatra that is believed to fetch them peace and salvation from sins. Therefore, to many devotees, Charm Dham yatra is like dream come true. It’s often seen that tourists go on their Dham Yatra commencing from Hairidwar-Rishikesh to Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Since, Yamunotri lies on a different direction to these three dhams, you have to take a bend from Dharasu while coming from Rishikesh. Yamunotri lies at 107 kms from Dharasu.
On your way, stop at Dharasu to visit the Power Station. The first stage of the Dam was created in 1984 at upstream of Uttarkashi that was named the Tiloth Power Plant. Later on, the Dharasu Power Station was completed by 2008, though its construction was stopped mid-way in 1990.


How to reach?

You can reach Dharasu by private car or in bus from Haridwar or Rishikesh. Otherwise, take national Highway 108 or the National Highway 94 that also passes through the town.
