Accommodations in Kedarnath
After the massive and horrifying flood of 2013, there are temporary tent arrangements mostly provided by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (GMVNL), it’s an Uttarakhand Government body managing facilities at different pilgrimage sites. The fees are charged nominal, and it is rupees 250/- and 500/- per person per night depending upon the room quality and services offered and has to be booked in advance. These temporary staying arrangements are made up of tents, cottages and pre-fabricated compartment bedrooms. These tents are provided with basic facilities of toilets, warm water, and drinking water and warm blankets for night. There are also arrangements of breakfast, lunch and dinner and are charged appropriately. The foods served are of good quality and are cent percent vegetarian, made of good quality products.
The camps are located at a distance of 1.5 kms from the main temple. If one goes by mule or horse riding then it is the nearest place. But when one goes by helicopter, then it is advisable to book Swargarohini cottages, as it is nearest to the helipad.
The camps are designated by three separate names- Swarga Rohini Camp, Nandi Complex and Kedarnath base camp.
Swarga Rohini Camp - This camp is located nearest to helipad and is good for devotees who are travelling by helicopter. The charges are rupees 500 per person per night stay. There is a separate bathroom for every room.
Nandi Complex - These are the pre-fabricated complex located near Kedarnath temple. The huts accommodate 6 beds and arrangements are made on the ground. The charges are rupees 500 per person per night stay. Each hut has its own separate bathroom.
Kedarnath Base Camp - This is located at a distance of 1 km for the main temple and offers budget stay at a price of rupees 250 per person per night stay. The bathrooms are common.
Remember due to limited facilities and high demands, it would be smart to plan accordingly and book the accommodation well before in advance by going to the official website of GMVNL and making online payments.
Apart from the GMVNL arrangement several hotels, restaurants, lodges and Inns are there which provide accommodation in Guptakashi, the last motor able place. One can stay there and have rest and can then proceed their travel on either mule, donkey or by foot. But the charges are comparably higher as these are private runs and their charges depend upon the peak season demands. These places provide all the basic amenities and there are 3 -star and 4-star hotels (or equivalent to 3 or 4 star hotels) as well with good quality food being served. These hotels have tie up with several tour operators which provide packages for sight seeing and travelling Also having tie ups with cab service providers and guides who can make the journey really worth remembering, these hotels really work as one stop shop for all your solutions related to darshan & your travel needs.
To have best experience of nature and the divine blessing of Lord Shiva, there is no doubt that one has to take a little arduous journey through mountains in extreme climates, but believe me its worth taking the pain. The only key is to plan as early as possible, in order to avail all the facilities and avoid last mile hurry.
