How to Reach Kedarnath?
Kedarnath is located in hilly terrain and is not motor able. People have to take an arduous 15 KM trek to kedarnath from Gaurikund (which is motor able part of the journey) and offer prayers to Lord Shiva or Lord Kedareshware.
Airways - One can reach nearest airport, which is Jolly Grant airport located at a distance of 240 kilometers. The airport is connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Thiruvananthpuram and Lucknow. With government of Indiaâ€™s new UDAAN scheme many more cities are being connected directly with regular flight interval. From the airport,regular bus and cab services are available for Gaurikund.
Railways - Nearest railway station from kedarnath is Rishikesh, which is situated at a distance of 215 KM. This railway station is well connected and has round the clock cab facilities and bus services for Gaurikund. Several cities have direct and indirect train plying to and from Rishikesh. Once, the devotee reaches to Rishikesh, he/she can take a cab or bus service for Gaurikund and then from there they have to trek for 14-15 KMs for Kedarnath. The other nearest railway station is Haridwar, Kathgodam and Kothdwaar.
Roadways - The nearest motor able road from Kedarnath is Gaurikund. There several public as well as private transportation system ferries people on regular intervals. All the major cities in the vicinity like, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttarkashi, Haridawar, Srinagar, Chamoli are connected with government bus services, which charges anywhere from Rs 200/- to Rs 1500/- per person depending on whether the bus is multi-axel premium bus like Volvo, etc. The national highway(NH) 109 is the road connecting the Gaurikund with other part of country.
Helicopter Service - Recently, the temple trust and government has tied up to provide helicopter service to and from the Gaurikund, where a helipad base has been constructed to ferry devotes. Those who cannot travel the rough terrain and are not in condition to even ride the donkeys, can take the helicopter service for few thousand rupees (may be between 5000 to 7000) for both ways. The fares vary during the peak and lean season and depending upon the demand it has and has to be booked in advance.
